Chaldecott's Gallery' attempts to bring to the viewer an insight into the practice of a modern day oil painter. Oil paintings that are produced with patience, care, diligence, love, and a shear tenacity in overcoming the obstacles that a modern painter faces nowadays. I have in fact studied the oil medium for twenty one years, it's makeup, it's structure, and it's technical application. I think it is good for the viewer to know that although Chaldecott's Gallery is a registered business from 2003, I consider myself a painter firstly with business a mere secondary. Although the two go hand in hand one thing will remain; the fact that I will still be painting until the end. But as they say, 'pictures speak louder than words' so I urge the viewer to make their own mind up on my work.
This site attempts to be informative as well. I constantly edit and update this site for a more refined and pleasing presentation. So the viewer should expect changes in that department. Works are for sale of course, but this is a natural occurrence to all artists through all times, even Van Gogh managed a couple in a year, Cezanne and Monet never got their estates without selling a painting or two! So then, naturally I offer this option too. Every painting that goes out into the world is but a mere bonus to me, not because of the financial gain, but because now my work is out there, and will be out there after I am gone. Already many places hang my 'work' on their walls.

S:20" X 20" oil glaze on wood panel.
The background has had no less than 14 layered glazes applied. With each one drying before the next is applied. More could be added; in fact master Titian used to apply no less than 50 to his works. The main subject: fine brush glaze, and layers. This painting is not perfect; but I have my fingers on the technique.

Fourteen layered glazes applied in the background, working fine brush glaze pigments to the flower and leaves. Image doesn't give glory to the original oil painting. See more in 'flowers' category.
